Dr. Lília Gonçalves Magalhães Tavolaro
joined Portal Commerce & Logistics in 2006 as a Senior Consultant
and Co-Director of Portal’s Public Policy Analysis and Evaluation
Division. Her expertise includes Brazilian federal, state, and local
government policies in the areas of non-governmental organizations,
social inclusion, communication, affirmative action, and work force
development.
As an academic
researcher and consultant, Dr. Tavolaro has worked in the United
States and Brazil on projects funded by prestigious and highly
competitive research grants from the Brazilian Ministry of Science
and Technology (CNPq), the Brazilian Ministry of Education (CAPES),
the Center for Population Studies at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP),
and the New School for Social Research in New York. She has
published widely in academic journals covering such topics as the
meaning of "race" in Brazilian affirmative action policies,
education policy, ethnicity, urbanization, and the impacts of
regionalization and globalization.
Dr. Tavolaro received her Bachelor of Arts
in Social Sciences and a Masters degree in sociology from the
University of Campinas UNICAMP, and her Masters and Ph.D. degrees in
sociology from the New School for Social Research.
